De whisky heeft in zijn geheel gerijpt in first fill ex-bourbon vaten, waarna de helft is overgebracht naar ex-champagne vaten van Paul Launois om daarin minstens 1 jaar verder te rijpen.

Mortlach 16 years rijpt op een combinatie aan first-fill en refill sherryvaten van zowel Amerikaans als Europees eiken. Deze malt staat bekend om een goed gebalanceerd karakter met rijke invloeden van sherry. Intense toetsen van gedroogd fruit worden aangevuld door hints van pruimen, bessen en kruiden.
